Where to buy calligraphy supplies online
The best places for online supplies are Paper Ink Arts and John Neal Booksellers.
There are many places to buy beautiful hand turned penholders, of course I gotta show you my pal Brian Smith’s Unique Obliques (check out our Painted Pen collaboration). Several Master Penmen also make amazing penholders: Heather and Chris Held‘s colorful rainbow colored pens, Michael Sull‘s gorgeous and perfect pens and Bill Lilly‘s exotic engrosser pens. Other craftsmen are also making oblique holders: Salvador Mendez, Pierre Miller, Chris Yoke and Rodger Mayeda. It is certainly a renaissance in penholder artistry, lucky for us!
Where to learn calligraphy
First, contact your local guild and see if there are any lessons going on. Face to face instruction is always your best bet.
You can also buy instructional books online, or check your bookstore or library.
DasherieMag is a new magazine for calligraphers, check it out for tutorials, projects, inspirational articles, featured artists etc.
Some calligraphers also offer online classes.
There are free lessons online as well. Check out IAMPETH, Youtube, Joe Vitolo’s book, etc. I have a series of Youtube tutorials called the Pointed Pen Calligraphy 101.
If you’re lucky, there is a calligraphy conference near you. Check out IAMPETH Convention, Legacies, Summit, Passionate Pen.
